External Research Computing Summer / Workshop Opportunities

March 28, 2017

These opportunities are being offered beyond Harvard. We encourage you to apply, as they are specifically soliciting participants from non-traditional disciplines (e.g. social sciences & business)!

High Performance Computing Summer Institute at UC San Diego
Applications are open for the San Diego Supercomputer Center Summer Institute 2017 at UC San Diego from July 31st to August 4th, 2017.

The Summer Institute provides attendees with an overview of topics in High Performance Computing and Data Science to accelerate their learning process through highly interactive classes with hands-on tutorials on the Comet Supercomputer. The program is aimed at researchers in academia and industry, especially in domains not traditionally engaged in supercomputing. Participants only need to have basic programming experience and should be comfortable working in a Linux environment.

SGCI Summer Programs for Graduate and Undergraduate Students
The Science Gateways Community Institute will host three programs in summer 2017 for students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Programs will take place at an SGCI partner site. Each program includes a stipend, travel support, and housing for each student. To apply, you must be a permanent resident or a U.S. citizen. Underrepresented groups in science, including minorities, women, and first-generation college students, are strongly encouraged to apply.

What is a Science Gateway? They are digital interfaces centered on users and communities, often on specific research or education applications of the technology, even when such resources are geographically distributed. The digital resources in this context could be anything from a highly tuned parallel application running on a supercomputer to a Hadoop analysis running on a commercial cloud to a shared instance of Matlab running on a department workstation. The key point is that Science Gateways provide value-added interfaces to access these shared
